Oscar Montague is a prize-winning classical guitarist and educator whose career encompasses solo performance, chamber music, and third-level music education. Known for his refined technique and musical depth, Oscar brings a bold yet sensitive voice to the classical guitar repertoire, with interpretations that are both compelling and emotionally resonant.
He holds a First Class Honours Degree and a Master’s in Music from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where he specialised in classical guitar under the tutelage of Marion Hyland. His accolades include the Contemporary Irish Music Cup, the Guitar Bach Prize, and the Aileen Gore Strings Competition at the ESB Feis Ceoil—making him the only guitarist to have won all three.
He has also performed on national radio and television, and appeared at leading festivals and concert halls throughout Ireland and Europe. Oscar is the co-founder of the Éire Guitar Duo, a dynamic ensemble committed to expanding the guitar duo repertoire through performance, commissioning, and recording.
The duo’s recent highlights include sold-out performances in Dublin, a feature at the Ards International Guitar Festival, and the release of ICC Guitar Works, an EP featuring original music by Irish and Irish-based composers. Their latest project includes six newly commissioned works by members of the Irish Composers’ Collective, set to be premiered and recorded for ICC Guitar Works Vol. 2.

In addition to his performance career, Oscar is a passionate educator and lecturer in classical guitar at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT), where he mentors a new generation of performers and music professionals. He is regularly invited to adjudicate competitions and lead masterclasses, contributing to the ongoing development of Ireland’s classical guitar community.
Oscar began his classical guitar studies at age ten and has pursued a lifelong dedication to the instrument, combining performance excellence with a mission to champion new music and engage audiences through innovative programming and collaboration.
